OMTID Collaboration.
In April 2024, I hosted a workshop with the OMTID (Office of Major Transport Infrastructure Delivery WA) staff. Together, they contributed to an artwork that will adorn the foyer of the office for years to come. Exploring ephemeral art, they deeply connected with 'boodja' (country), and even crafted their own individual pieces to take home. Smiles lit up the room, and everyone in the office was grateful for the opportunity to reignite their creative spark and embrace their inner child once more.
Artwork Meaning:
-Collective Belonging
The staff here at the OMTID building and I collaborated in an ephemeral art workshop to celebrate staff connections and foster a sense of collective belonging. It was truly rewarding to stand back and witness the smiles on people's faces as they connected with Country and each other. Their handprints personalise the piece for OMTID.
The six images superimposed across the triptych using a technique called decoupage, represent the evolution of transport over the years; my personal connections; and the advancements in travel for future generations.
These images are surrounded by the Noongar six seasons, journey lines and movement, along with the Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River) here on Whadjuk Boodjar. Below are representations of the rail lines and other forms of pathways present today all painted in oil paint.
For the final details, I used rust from old railway pins mixed with Balga resin. I chose Balga because they are the giants of our country, some of the oldest in history, and a great representation of collective caretaking. It is crucial that we all do our part to care for the country and ensure sustainability for future generations.
